In the dark. That way you’ll avoid the momentary look of sheer terror on his face before he realises that, actually, it may not be such a bad idea after all.

While he’s reading the paper. Men are genetically unable to multi-task, so asking him any question while he’s engaged in something else is bound to get you a ‘yes, dear’ in reply.
